You may have noticed: this page is a work in progress. In fact, everything is a work in progress. This page, my YouTube channel, and Flickr account are all brand new as of tonight.
What is Pet Picks? My goal is to have both a vlog and accompanying blog where I review pet products aimed at our canine friends.
My canine friend is Calliope, a three-year old Lhasa Apso. I adopted her two years ago from the Humane League of Lancaster County. I was a first time dog owner and had completed a hefty amount of research. The fact remained, though, that I had never actually walked a dog, let alone care for one.
Well, that isn't entirely true. The first time I "walked" a dog was back in 1996 when I was fourteen. My cousin had a very rambunctious Coonhound that was a trained hunting dog, but did not have any leash manners. We walked out into a field where my cousin handed me the leash. "Here, hold this." Within seconds the dog dragged me at least ten feet. I lost grip of the leash and the dog...well, he rolled around in a pile of deer droppings. My cousin had a good laugh because she knew the dog was going to drag me. She just didn't know how long I could hold on. I don't think this experience counts as walking a dog, but it did give both of us a good tale to tell. I'm just glad cellphone cameras didn't exist, otherwise it would be on YouTube for posterity.
As a new dog owner, I knew the basic gear Calliope would need: a collar and leash, food, bowls, crate, bedding, grooming tools, and toys. Seemed simple enough. The Humane League even has it's own shop. I was able to pick out the majority of the items right there.
Over the past two years I have purchased so many things! When it's a planned purchase, I do my research. My go-to places are Amazon & YouTube. Every now and again I happen across someone's blog. Not all of the items I plan on buying have been reviewed. This blog is my contribution to the internet.
To get started, I will be reviewing the products I have already purchased: the good and the bad. I will also ask my readers on their own opinions of certain products.
I also hope to give my review of companies that produce pet products. I know I already hold a few in high esteem and would like to share my stories with the world.
Sit. Stay. Watch while I build this blog. I hope you will like it!
